So, a freind and I are getting the sleeper train to Scotland on Friday night in order to cycle the 80 mile (130 km) journey from Fort Willam to Crinan on Saturday. I have to say, I am starting to shit myself.
Although the topography is largely flat (I think), head winds of 30mph are predicted, along with heavy rain. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, it is Scotland in late October.
I ordered a couple of maps from Sustrans which, because of the postal strike, have still not arrived but the route we have decided is a little different to the part of R78 route between Oban and Lochgilphead.
I reckon it should take us between 5 and 6 hours with the predicted conditions as long as nothing goes terribly wrong with the bikes.
